A guide through the events of this years European Film Market / Berlinale 2025

Every year, the Berlinale and the European Film Market (EFM) bring together some of the most exciting voices in the film industry. For me, the EFM is not just a marketplace; it’s a hub of inspiration, learning, and connection. Whether it’s discovering emerging trends, engaging with new technologies, or exchanging ideas with fellow industry professionals, the EFM is where I expand my horizons.

This year, I’ve curated a personal list of events that align with my interests and the pressing topics shaping the industry today. Our industry & conference program highlights

My Top Picks for Audience Design & Audience Analysis sessions at EFM 2025 cover essential topics such as AI-driven audience analysis, effective strategies for film marketing and financing, media consumption trends among young Europeans, and the role of independent cinema in engaging youth. The next events I want to attend at EFM 2025 will explore how societal insights can influence future narratives in cinema, and provide in-depth analysis of the latest industry trends and shifts. These insights offer valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of filmmaking and storytelling.

At the intersection of Artificial Intelligence & Technology in the Film Industry, EFM 2025 offers sessions that explore how AI is revolutionizing filmmaking. From AI Fusion in Film to AI Playbook 101 for independent producers, these events showcase tools enhancing production and pitching processes. Additionally, the Cinema & Film Industry track includes discussions on Cinema Vision 2030, festival strategies, and the Entertainment Finance Forum, providing filmmakers with essential insights into the evolving landscape of cinema.

In the field of Pitching, Financing & Production – the Berlinale program involves the highly anticipated PITCH_IT 4th Edition on February 13, where filmmakers can showcase their projects and connect with industry professionals, I am happy to be one of the mentors for the projects and look forward to their pitches. The Documentary & Social Impact track explores how films drive change, with the session Films Change the World on February 14 highlighting the powerful role of documentaries in shaping societal narratives. Also on February 14, How to Navigate Berlinale & EFM from a Non-Fiction Perspective will provide essential insights for filmmakers in the documentary space. The Film Festivals and Polarized Societies session on February 17 will discuss how filmmakers can navigate the challenges of presenting their work in an increasingly polarized world.

The Gender, Diversity & Equality track at EFM 2025 addresses crucial topics surrounding inclusivity in the film industry. On February 14, the Gender Equality in the Audiovisual Sector session will examine the progress made in achieving gender parity, followed by Female Leadership: Breaking the Glass Ceiling, which focuses on the challenges and triumphs of women in leadership roles. A standout event is Brüder, holt Eure Schwestern ans Set! on February 20, which I’m especially excited about, as I’ll be joining my dear friend Christoph May from the Detox Masculinity Institute to explore how men can support and encourage gender equality on set.

Let’s connect! If you’re attending any of the events or just around during EFM 2025, I’d love to grab a coffee and chat about future opportunities. Whether you’re working on a new project, exploring innovative ideas, or simply looking to exchange insights, it’s always exciting to meet fellow filmmakers and industry professionals. Let’s take the time to discuss how we can collaborate, share ideas, and help shape the future of the film industry together. Looking forward to connecting!
